Spray Foam Pool
Shallow soil temperatures fluctuate throughout the year in response to the weather. However, at a depth of 3-5 feet, soil maintains a consistant temperature. Here in Iowa, that averages out to be 50°F to 60°F. If that was the temperature of your pool water, you would probably find it too cold for swimming!
Uninsulated pools inadvertently heat the soil thats around them, while that soil itself cools the water. If you are heating your pool, this taxes your heating system and drives up the cost of maintaining a comfortable temperature.
This is why many homeowners insulate the exterior sides and bottoms of their pools. This insulating layer (typically a minimum of 1”-2” thick) helps to keep the water’s heat inside the pool- maintaining a consistent and comfortable temperature while lowering energy costs.
Because spray foam is water resistant and can be applied to almost any surface, it is a longterm and reliable solution for outdoor pools. See Thermal Shop’s application of spray foam to an outdoor pool in the photos below.
