Student Built House
Thermal Shop was invited back for another round of working with the Student Build program in Iowa City, IA. Like the project from 2024 (724 Ronalds St), this home was built with superior energy efficiency solutions in mind. With a robust insulation package of closed cell spray foam, net & blow exterior walls, and an R-60 attic- this home exceeds expectations.

Three different Iowa City schools - Iowa City High School, Liberty High School, and West High School- are working in partnership with the Housing Fellowship and Sueppel’s Building & Remodeling to bring more affordable housing to the Iowa City area. Through the Student Build program, which runs all year long, students are able to learn about different trades and practice their skills on a real job site.
Houses built for this project aim to be more energy-efficiency than the average house, (qualifying for all sorts of energy certifications), mimic the style of historic Iowa City homes, and provide a quality home to an Iowa City renter.
